ROUND SEVEN vs Barnawartha

Seniors Football: 3.3 21 - 11.15 81

The Bushies showed plenty of fight at home against a strong Barnawartha outfit despite being undermanned and making a number of changes from the previous week. Several young players stepped into senior football opportunities, including Ryan McKay who proudly played his first senior game for the club, with the group competing strongly for much of the day. The Bushies remained within 40 points at three-quarter time before Barnawartha were able to break the game open late. Hamish Malsem led from the front in his 200th senior game for the club and was well supported by Hugh Kavanagh, Liam Stephens, Kayde Surrey and Brenton Surrey. The performance showed encouraging signs from the younger group against quality opposition.

Very proud of how the boys started this weekend. We couldn’t come away with the 4 points but the boys never gave up final whistle.

We came out with a very different team to what we have had all year with boys going up to the ones and a couple away sick, but all the boys who came in gave 100%. Great effort and another win is within arms reach.

Under 12s Football: 1.1 6 - 4.0 24

A fast and skilful game of football this morning. Barnawatha were very strong and showed how they’ve been posting such big scores. Our back line was superb, keeping Barny to their lowest score for the season. Some really hard running and great effort put in by all players with Beechworth winning the final quarter, being a great effort fighting it out till the end. Well done Bushies!

A Grade Netball: 28 - 38

Went down 28–38 today, but there were still plenty of positives to take away from the game. We showed some really strong patches of netball and will look to put together a big week on the training track before taking on Rutherglen next week. Eidenne provided plenty of drive through the court and created some important turnovers, while Ruby applied great hands over and pressure all day. Kera was consistent and strong defensively in the ring, continuing to put in a solid performance.

B Grade Netball: 27 - 27

A nail biting game today with B Grade drawing with Barny 27 all. The girls played their best game yet, coming together as a team and showing what they’re capable of. Our defensive end stood out today with relentless pressure, resulting in several turnovers.

C Grade Netball: 29 - 50

A cracker first half from C grade this week. The attack end worked hard, driving and providing goals at every opportunity. The defensive end provided pressure and ample turnovers throughout the game. However unfortunately, we went down in the second half.

C Res Netball: 20 - 32

Unfortunately the girls went down today, missing one of our key players and a bit of lost energy didn’t help our cause. Some good passages of play but also a lot to work on at training to help us improve for our next game. A well deserved weekend off next weekend for C res before we return firing for the next game!

U17’s Netball: 28 - 24

The U17s played a fantastic game against Barny today, coming away with a great win. The teamwork, intensity and support across the court was outstanding, with everyone contributing all game.

Harper worked tirelessly in WA today, providing beautiful feeds, creating strong space and options, and applying great defensive pressure down the court. Daisy created strong drives and opportunities through the middle, while Annie was accurate in GS with great holds and rebound follow-up. The pair combined brilliantly all game. Indi played a composed game in GA with beautiful shooting, spacing and strong movement throughout the court.

U15’s Netball: 29 - 39

A close score for much of the game, the girls eventually went down 39–29 after a tough final quarter. With several players away on camp, the team played the entire game with minimal to no rotations against a well-stocked opposition side. Despite the challenge, the effort across the court remained consistent all game. The girls also did a great job implementing new defensive strategies, showing strong communication, pressure, and teamwork throughout the match.

Under 15’s Res: 12 - 15

The girls did amazing today they all had positive attitudes and have implemented everything we have worked on at training.
We played our 15s team and the girls held their own making myself and them very proud of how far we have come.

U13s Netball: 16 - 32

A great team effort from the 13s this week. In attack, the focus was on cutting in front, driving strongly, changing direction to lose defenders, and maintaining control of the ball. Defensively, the girls worked hard on keeping both hands up and staying close to their player to apply pressure across the court. While Barnawartha came away with the win, 32–16, the scoreboard certainly didn’t reflect the quality of play and determination shown by the team throughout the game.

U13’s Res: 8 - 0

The girls had a great day on the court. Their patience, directional changes, driving forward, and clearing out contributed to a well-earned win.  Devi worked well in the ring, continually offering and repositioning, while Sadie moved strongly through goals and attack. Special mention to Elsie for her excellent roll-off in goals. Ella showed improved confidence in her driving and patience during centre passes. Overall, a fantastic team effort.

U11’s Netball: 19 - 6

A fantastic game for our under 11s today who had another win 19 to 6.
The girls showed their versatility and willingness to play different positions on the court. As always there was great defensive pressure with lots of intercepts and some beautiful passages of play down the court.

U11’s Wodonga: 4 - 8

The U11 Wodonga team went down 4-8 in an exciting and competitive game this week. Once again there was noticeable improvement across the team, particularly with defensive pressure, feeding into our shooters and strong pressure through the centre court.

The team worked incredibly hard all game, especially against some uneven height match ups in both goal circles. It was fantastic to see the effort and determination from everyone on the court. We also had plenty of bushies supporters on the sideline, which always creates a great atmosphere for the team.
