ROUND NINE vs Wodonga

Senior Football

Heritage Round was a fantastic occasion for the Beechworth Football Netball Club, with many past players returning to celebrate the club's proud history and acknowledge Brenton Surrey's record-breaking 338th senior game. On the field, the Bushrangers were challenged early by Wodonga Saints, with the scores remaining close at both the first and second breaks as Beechworth struggled to find consistent scoring opportunities.

The game turned after halftime as the Bushrangers lifted their intensity, moved the ball with greater speed and began to hit the scoreboard. The backline also settled, restricting the Saints' scoring and providing a strong foundation for the win. Rourke Warner, Pat McCarthy, Connor Stone, Jobe Brock and Austen Fendyk were all influential contributors, while Brenton Surrey showed in his milestone game that he can still compete strongly at senior level. It was a terrific team performance and a great victory for the club on a memorable day.

First Senior Game

Oskar English made his senior debut this week, marking an exciting milestone for the Year 12 student and club junior. A former captain of the thirds side, Oskar's dedication and hard work on the training track have driven significant improvement over the past two pre-seasons.

Primarily playing at centre half-back or full back, Oskar competes strongly in one-on-one contests, is clean with his hands, and isn't afraid to take the game on with his preferred left foot. He performed admirably in his first senior appearance, winning several crucial one-on-one battles and showing plenty of promise at the higher level.

Great team game from everyone this week! Total change of plan for this week threw a bit of chaos into the team for the 1st quarter until everyone settled into their new positions and roles. We wanted to get a few players their first goal and try other player out in new positions and it paid off. Well done to our usual superstars who took a spot in the backline, supporting others to have a crack! Awesome to sacrifice for the team and others!!
Gatty and DingDong getting their first goals. Deadlift, Otto and Lucas Armstrong making the most of the opportunity in key positions. Great win Bushies Beechworth 6.8.44, Wodonga 1.1.7

B Grade Netball

Congratulations to the B grade girls on their first win of the season! 47 to 24. The girls showed what they’re really capable of as a team and played 4 consistent quarters. Defensively the girls worked tirelessly with tight pressure resulting in several turnovers. The passages of play down the court were clear and concise with the girls utilising their channels. Lastly our attacking end dominated with beautiful feeding into the goals and accurate shooting.

We look forward to locking down and getting more wins on the board.

Awards: Goldfields Greengrocer: Matilda, Tiny: Dan, Nicholas Hotel: Tilly

C Grade Netball

A wet day on the court today. Catching with a W wasn’t our specialty but they played hard for the four quarters. There were some great turn overs from our defensive pressure throughout the court. The girls fired up in the second half, opening the court up for some clean leads whilst hitting the scoreboard.

These girls are improving every week! Unfortunately after holding the lead the whole game we went down by just 1 point! The girls adjusted their game play well to accommodate the wet weather game! From week to week they are taking on board instructions and really growing as a team! An enjoyable game for the girls and we can only keep getting better and better. Great effort girls!

U15s Netball

Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day today, going down 22-43 .The slippery conditions made for a tough game, and with several players under the weather and unable to play in their usual positions, we had to make plenty of changes across the court.

Despite the challenges, it was really pleasing to watch the girls keep their heads high and maintain such positive attitudes throughout the game. Those who found themselves playing out of position stepped up brilliantly and gave their all for the team.

While the result didn’t go our way, the resilience, teamwork and determination shown by the girls were fantastic to see.

Awards: Pfahlert Family Award (best on court)— Matilda Lampkin, Beechworth Machinery Award- Olivia Cavallin, BJ & CJ Surrey Award- Neve Taylor

U13s Netball:

Great effort by the 13’s today in their first wet-weather game of the season. The focus was on playing to the conditions with short passes, driving in front and using two hands for ball control. Wodonga led throughout the match and came away with a 21–12 win, but the girls never stopped competing and should be proud of their teamwork and willingness to try different positions.

Awards: Hotel Nicholas Award: Edie, Project 49 Award: Liv, Lemongrass Cafe Award: Amelie

U13’s Res Netball

Our U13’s Reserves team put in a determined performance today, holding their own well against the U15 Reserves team in challenging wet conditions. Emmaline delivered a solid effort throughout the game, applying strong defensive pressure and helping to create balance across the court. Facing taller opponents, Sadie worked tirelessly in attack, using effective drives and reading the play to find space and create opportunities for her teammates. Davi once again demonstrated her consistency, working hard in defence and making her presence felt.

The team showed great resilience and commitment, with plenty of positive efforts to build on moving forward.

U11s Netball

Our first wet-weather game of the season saw us go down 3–9. Despite the result, the girls played really well under pressure and adapted strongly to the rainy conditions. There were plenty of turnovers from both teams, but our defence worked hard and did an excellent job of keeping Wodonga to under 10 goals.
