ROUND SEVEN vs BARNAWARTHA

Netball

U11s

What a game. We came up against a really strong team today. Our girls showed that they can hold their own and didn’t get frazzled. Award to Polly for her resilience and a beautiful last quarter with Millie in the goal ring. To Elsie for working really hard all game and getting in front of her opponent. I could not be more proud of this team!

U13s

Beechworth 25 def by Barny 29.

This week the girls had good connection on court with availability to each other and the ball. We started each quarter with a lead but couldn't quite hold it with Barny finishing strong and taking the win 29 - 25.

Awards: Lauren who was driving strong onto the ball and always available with a reoffer and around the circle for our shooters. Joanne owned WD this week, reading the play so clearly, picking up beautiful clean intercepts and taking her player out of the game. Sophie put in a solid effort running out most of game and switching from defence to attack and back to defence

 U15s

Beechworth 46 def Barny 34.

15s are on fire and came away with another solid win 46 - 34. Everyone is playing their role beautifully and putting in the hard work in both defence and attack.

Awards: Issy B Excellent drive through the mid court and strong option on the circle edge. Lily great skill and trust in her teammates with her passes down the court and some impressive feeds into the goal circle. Violet such a versatile player who gave 100% on the court and provided a reliable first short option to transition out of defence.  Awesome work, team!

U17s

Beechworth 36 def by 48.

Amazing efforts all round for the team. Everyone kept their heads high all game, the scoreboard didn’t reflect the team effort displayed on court.

Awards: Maddles defensive pressure was spectacular along with her resilience of adapting to multiple player combinations throughout the game. Natalie created amazing space in the goal ring and spectacular intercepts in defensive end. Nat’s talk on the court didn’t go unnoticed and made a big impact to the team. Indi’s drives of the line in mid-court were strong and helped draw option all the way down the court.  Well done girls.

C grade

Beechworth 40 def by Barny 43.

C grade had a close game this week and just fell short. The team excelled when they needed to and demonstrated such great team work. Everyone gave 100% and the vibe was high!

Awards: Aimee’s defensive pressure was spectacular, shutting down their play, dictating the space, guiding the team and always being there as an option. Matilda, lots of strong and fast drives, always managing to get there and be an option, but it was the defensive pressure all the way down the court that really stood out. Tilly who ran her little heart out, created the space, was always an option, was everyone’s cheerleader and of course those long bombs into the ring that are going to give her coach grey hairs.

B Grade

Beechworth 33 def by Barny 46.

B grade fought hard all game, but were unable to match a strong third quarter by Barny. The Bushies continue to demonstrate great defensive pressure down the whole court. Our attacking end provided lots of intensity and opportunities all game long! Well done girls.

Awards: Kera for her high intensity in the ring, she was an impact player who was rewarded with many intercepts throughout the game. Lelia, for being so versatile and adjusting her game so seamlessly. Marlee for her versatility and strong drives within the attacking end.

A grade:

Beechworth 59 def Barny 46.

A grade finished the day off strong with a great win over Barny. The girls were well matched all game but demonstrated 4 quarters of strong, smart, hard netball. Our attacking end showed their strongest form. This team is certainly building something really special.

Awards: Best on: Rach, Our shooting mountain goat an absolute weapon under the post! Rach shot 49 of our 59 goals!! 2nd: Lainey so impressive all game, who stepped into GK and was an impact player all game. 3rd: Ella was fierce, determined, and full of grit!

Under 14s

The 14s managed to get their first win of the season. It was a fantastic result for the hard work that they have put in over the last few months. The kids are starting to play team football and the improvement is really starting to show. Keep up the good work.

Under 17s

The Beechy U17 footballers enjoyed a good battle of football against Barny on Saturday. Barny fought well in the first quarter keeping the game close. The game threatened to open up in the second quarter, until Barny fought back in the third. A solid last quarter from Beechy saw them run out winners by four goals. The boys played some good footy, but at times lapsed in concentration. The back line were good. Best players included Archie Balzer, Hugh Lucas, Max Ray, and Fin Hoysted.

Awards – Pfahlert Family – Archie Balzer, Beechworth Plumbing – Owen Stone, Last Street – Hugh Lucas, Beechworth Bakery- Archer Warner, Beechworth Accounting – Max Ray, Himalayan Guiding – Justin Sheridan

Reserves

A good side on paper did not come to fruition on the Weekend. Barny were too strong and well drilled across the board. Once again demonstrating the benefits of training together to improve skills and fitness. Our reserves should take note.

Awards – Stanley Pub Aya McInerny, Tanswells Hotel – Will Enright, Nicholas Hotel – Hunter North, Last Street Beechworth – Dustin Romero, Beechworth Bakery – Mason Fendyk, Shingleback Offroad – Hugh Kavanagh

Seniors

In an extremely tight contest played predominantly between the arcs, Beechworth battled hard against Barnawartha on their home deck. Despite controlling much of the third quarter and creating chances to extend their lead, the Bushrangers were unable to capitalise on the scoreboard. Barnawartha surged late in the final term, generating enough forward momentum to snatch the lead by the final siren. Standout performers for Beechworth included Lucas Jakobsson, Hagen Hopp, Hayden Cooper, Kayde Surry, and Campbell Fendyk, with a big challenge looming this week as the senior group prepares to take on the Cats.
