A very successful round 8 on the netball court.
U13’s match report:
Beechworth 21 def Rutherglen 10.
Strong full court defensive pressure allowed for a large number of intercepts and turn overs from our defenders, special mention to Neve for her relentless pressure in defence. After recognising and making minor adjustments to the placement of our passes the ball moved freely down the court and into our shooters.
Awards: Lily - is a driving force on court with her timing and drives and shot with 100% accuracy in the second half. Sophie - moved beautifully in the ring today, repeatedly rolling off her defender and becoming free under the ring. Ellie - swings so well from goals into defence her quick feet getting around her player for some lovely intercepts and rebounds.
U15’s match report:
Beechworth 45 def Rutherglen 11.
Another solid team performance saw the 15s take the win! Coach Rach is really proud of the team’s composure and confidence in each other to adapt quickly to changes. U15’s are currently sitting 5th on the ladder!
Awards: Izzy W. - always so reliable and pulls in a load of intercepts and rebounds for her team each week. Beatrix N. - really starting to assert herself on court and working hard to limit the space the shooters have in the circle. Taiya H. - getting front position and always ready for loose balls. She was also a strong linking player for us when bringing the ball out of defence.
Best lesson of the day: when we focus on our team and one ball at a time, we are an incredibly strong team unit. Keep up the great effort, girls!
U17’s match report:
Beechworth 42 def Rutherglen 23.
The U17’s celebrated their first win of the season, Wohoo!! The girls adapted well and demonstrated lots of strong plays throughout the game. It was great to watch the team use their voice and direct one another. Great team effort!
Awards: Best On: Harper C. - Strong in the circle & so accurate. Harper fought through all that was thrown at her with great maturity and composure. Elsey N. - what a strong & impactful work horse. Elsey did not stop all game. With her give-and-goes & her defensive pressure. All that we’ve been working on at training was on display. Fantastic effort. Maddles - It’s always a pleasure to watch Maddles go to work on her opponent. She got plenty of rebounds and provided lots of strong drives down the court.
C grade match report:
Beechworth 45 def Rutherglen 30.
It was a big weekend for our C Grade girls who took their first win in 2+ years!! This team has demonstrated so much growth over the last two weeks and it really paid off. Congratulations girls
Awards: Shannon Neil - went hard for 4 qtrs, stood strong and provided consistent strong leads and second efforts. Kelly Clarkson - dominated in defence, lots of hands to balls, intercepts, great rebounding and read the play well! Tilly Boyd - ever reliable, doing a great job in centre. Always creating/finding the space to be an option.
B Grade match report:
Beechworth 20 def by Rutherglen 34.
The B grade girls hustled all day long and continued to provide so much intensive out on that court. This week the girls showed great determination with some different dynamics on court. The girls should be very proud of the netball they’re playing.
Awards: Best on - Poppy V (Stanley Pub) Our little ‘pocket rock’ who provided all game! We put her into defence and asked her to shut down a speedy GA and she did just that. Poppy also moved into our attack end and provided clean feeds. Kera B (Nicholas Hotel) Kera is a very consistent and hard working defender. Kera provides many rewards to her team with her rebounding efforts and clean intercepting.
Nat V (P&J Chambeyron) Nat who plays in our U17’s team stepped up with very little notice to help our B grade team. Nat fits into this team seamlessly and demonstrates great skills and composure. A young gun of the club, that gives and gives.
A grade match report:
Beechworth 38 def Rutherglen 26.
3 wins from our last 4 games so pleasing to see us really starting to find our feet! It wasn’t our cleanest display of netball, but we scraped through with the win. We’ve been building strong form, and while some days aren’t pretty, it’s about finding a way and we did just that. Rach and Sezzy are really starting to connect in the goal circle, with Sezzy stepping in to offer a different dynamic. Her movement and feeds to Rach were a real highlight. Unfortunately, Tegan went down in a gutsy contest flying for the ball and coming off second best. We’re hopeful for a positive update, but she’s likely to be sidelined for at least a few weeks. A big loss to our line-up.
Awards: Best on – Aliza (Beechworth Brewery): Outstanding defensive pressure with countless turnovers and tough one-on-one contests. Anna (Nicholas Hotel): Dominated in the air and on the rebound. Eidenne (Last Street & Club): Worked tirelessly through the midcourt and delivered sharp, smart feeds.
Proud of all 10 girls for showing heart and resilience to get it done!
We look forward to taking on Mitta next weekend.

The Beechy boys came up against the top of the ladder Cats on Saturday. Although going down by 8 points, they played with a level of commitment that they can be proud of. It was a tight tussle for the whole day, and either side could have finished on top. The boys showed some great improvement with plenty of optimism to be had, going into the second half of the season. Best players were Vaughn Bussell, Rourke Warner, Oliver Bladon, and Ted Ritchie.

Reserves
The Bushies reserves travelled to Rutherglen to take on the Cats at Barkly Park. This was a game where the scoreboard did not represent the effort from the team and the Bushies tried there hardest until the end. Aya was once again fantastic in defence and Tommy Mason busted a boiler trying on the day.
Awards – Stanley Pub Jimmy Davidson, Tanswells Hotel – Kade Parkinson, Nicholas Hotel – Aya McInerny, Last Street Beechworth – Matt Hicks, Beechworth Bakery – Tom Mason, Shingleback Offroad – Roy Dunnett DeJong
Seniors
Beechworth started brightly, taking full advantage of a strong breeze to kick ahead early. After quarter time, the contest tightened considerably, with both sides struggling to hit the scoreboard. The Bushies had several late chances to seal the result but couldn't quite convert under pressure. In the dying moments, Rutherglen capitalised on some fortunate breaks to steal the win, leaving Beechworth determined to bounce back next week. Best players Tom Cartledge, Liam McCrostie, Finn Jakobsson, Pat McCarthy, Brad Fendyk.
