ROUND FIVE vs WODONGA SAINTS

Beechworth travelled down to Wodonga on Saturday for a full day of netball against the Wodonga Saints at Martin Park. It was a mixed day of results across the grades, with three strong wins from our 13 & Under, B Grade, and A Grade teams, and competitive efforts from our Under 15s, Under 17s, and C Grade sides.

Netball

A Grade

Beechworth’s A Grade team capped off the day with a powerful performance. The match was physical and fast-paced, but the Bushies stood firm under pressure. Mid-court control and a strong defensive setup helped to secure a 40-32 win. Congratulations to Olivia Cavallin, who at age 13, played her first A grade game alongside her Mum, helping the team to secure their first win for the season. The future of the club looks exciting!

B Grade

B Grade delivered a determined four-quarter performance. The game remained tight through the first half, but Beechworth’s discipline and defensive pressure showed in the third and fourth quarters coming away with a solid 57-24 win. An incredible team effort created turnovers up and down the court with shooters converting on the scoreboard allowing us to build a lead and hold it until the final whistle.

C Grade

C Grade fought hard in a closely contested match. Beechworth generated plenty of opportunities through strong defensive efforts and smart attacking play, but Wodonga Saints held their nerve late in the game to come away with the win. A spirited performance from the Bushrangers that just fell short on the scoreboard.

17 & Under

The Under 17s got off to a confident start. As the match wore on, Wodonga’s pressure across the court began to tell, disrupting Beechworth’s flow in attack. Despite some promising passages of play and a great defensive effort by the Bushies, the Saints finished stronger to take the win.

15 & Under

Beechworth’s Under 15s played with heart and hustle across all four quarters. Composure in the attacking end with decision making, and a strong defensive effort saw a great game of netball played, however Wodonga Saints capitalised on their opportunities and edged ahead in the second half to claim the match.

13 & Under

The 13 & Under team kicked off the day with a terrific performance, claiming their first win for the season (22-17). Their energy, movement, and defensive pressure helped to secure the well-deserved win.

Reserves

What a come back of a win for the boys this weekend.

Saints came out strong and really put the boys under the pressure early in the game, credit to the boys they stuck with them as best they could. Half time the score looked almost like the game was done but the saints looked like they were slowing down and our boys were getting better the hotter the day got. Down all day till the last quarter we seemed to lift in to another gear and hit the front with only 5 minutes to go.

Was a really great reward for the boys and probably the best win the 2nds have had in years.

Awards – Stanley Pub – Jobe Brock, Tanswells Hotel – Mackenzie Hodges, Nicholas Hotel – Kade Parkinson, Last Street Beechworth – Aya McInerny, Beechworth Bakery – Hunter North, Shingleback Offroad – Aaron O’Rielly

Seniors

It was a slow start for the Bushrangers, but some smart adjustments saw them wrestle back control by half time. From there, they played a cleaner, harder brand of footy to keep the momentum going. Solid performances from Liam Stephens, Connor Stone, and Kayde Surrey helped steer the side, while Lucas Jakobsson set the tone with a standout best-on-ground display. Another win in the books as attention now turns to a big challenge against Yack this week!
